Waiting on Wed- Trying to Score by Toni Aleo

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine
where you share an upcoming release that you're anticipating on reading.

Trying to Score is the second in the Assassin's Series by Toni Aleo. Her debut novel is Taking Shots.

Scheduled Release- April 30, 2012

However, this is what Toni has said on her blog. "Taking Shots is 24 reviews (on amazon) from 100, when I reach 100, I will release Trying to Score on 4/23 which is 7 days early!!!!!!"

Fallon Parker’s dream was to have her family’s wine company at the top of all wine magazines and to have a cellar of her own. After graduating from college, she has worked hard to make that dream a reality, even if that meant having a nonexistent love life. She had her chance at love and that was a bust, so she put everything into the wine company. After becoming the official sponsor of the Nashville Assassins, Fallon finally feels like everything is falling in place, that is until Lucas Brooks comes back into her life.

Lucas Brooks hates his life. He is lonely, he is sober, and he is angry. On the ice, when he’s not in the sin bin, he the leading scorer in the NHL but off the ice, he is a mess. He threw away the most important person in his life, and has regretted it ever since but when Lucas sees Fallon again after being traded to the Assassins; he is bound and determined to get her back. Even if she wants nothing to do with him.

The sexual tension between Fallon and Lucas is electrifying as Lucas tries to convince Fallon that he is a changed man. Fallon tries to resist Lucas, but it is so hard when all her body wants is his. But when Lucas finds out that Fallon has been keeping a huge secret from him, the game he is playing stops and penalties are called.

With new rules and new players on the ice, will Fallon and Lucas be able to work out their differences and work as a team or will they be left trying to score alone.

I had the pleasure of reading this already. Ladies, this is one hot series with ice cool hockey players. Do not miss out on these books or you will regret it. *swoon*

Review- The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines

Being the good girl isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Ashton Gray has grown weary of playing the part to please her parents, and to be worthy of the town’s prince charming, Sawyer Vincent. Maybe That’s why she’s found herself spending time with Sawyer’s cousin, Beau, while he’s away for the summer camping with his family. Beau is nothing like her perfect boyfriend. He’s the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, dangerous in ways she’s only day dreamed about, and the one guy she should stay away from.
Beau never envied Sawyer his loving parents, his big nice home, or his position as quarterback. He loves him like a brother. Which is why he's tried everything in his power to keep his distance from Sawyer’s girlfriend. Even if he has loved her since the age of five, Ashton is Sawyer’s girl, so therefore she’s off limits. But when Sawyer leaves for the summer, Ashton, the one girl Beau would move Heaven and Earth for, decides she wants to get into trouble. Stabbing the one person who’s always accepted him and stood by him in the back, is the cost of finally holding Ashton Gray in his arms. Is she worth losing his cousin over?.... Hell Yeah.

Even though the title is The Vincent Boys, this centers around Ashton trying to figure herself out. She grew up with Sawyer and Beau and the three were inseparable as youngsters. Now, as teens, Ashton is struggling with who she is viewed as versus who she really is. She knows that coming to terms with who she is and choosing a life of happiness for herself will undoubtedly cause pain for others. Will she choose to make herself happy or continue the act to keep those around her happy? Of course, there is some major reckoning coming for The Boys as well.

Book Boyfriend- Shea Adler from Taking Shots

Shea Adler... what can I say about Shea. He is a pro hockey player for the Nashville Assassin's. So you know he's fit but he's also sweet, caring, and
compassionate. He is just an all around plain good guy. He treats Ellie with the utmost care like the precious jewel she is.  Now... he is not perfect but who wants a man that is... too hard to change him!!  lol

I mean... who doesn't want a boyfriend based on him -->
That's Shea Weber from the Nashville Predators, by the way.

So... read my review... read the book... and fall in love with Shea Adler... just like the rest of us!!  *sigh*

Review- Forgiving Trinity by Liz Reinhardt

At seventeen, Trinity McCabe has already made enough mistakes to fill a lifetime. Especially the one where she got high, drove a car, and almost killed a dog. And then let her friend Aidan take the blame.

She’s clean now and desperate to fix the messes she’s made, but first she’s going to have to get out of her pajamas.

As Trinity struggles to stop sleepwalking through life, she faces the painful, tingling sensation of waking up. It’s sometimes embarrassing (she really didn’t want to have lunch with Aidan’s mom), sometimes terrifying (group therapy is beyond intimidating), and sometimes, amazingly enough, pretty romantic (who’d have though Aidan would be such a great kisser?)

Trin is lucky, though—luckier than she deserves, she’s sure—and she doesn’t travel this road alone. Her family, her therapist, and her new friends are all pulling for her. And it turns out, some of them have made pretty big mistakes, too.

But before she can embrace her new life completely, Trinity has to be forgiven by the one person who is holding out the hardest: herself. It’s not easy changing everything, especially when you don’t think you deserve a second chance. Trinity might make an even bigger mess of things before she figures that out.

When the smoke clears on her latest disaster, will anyone still be standing there?

This book is recommended for older/mature YA readers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This novel is not your typical YA good girl likes bad boy and yada, yada, yada. Forgiving Trinity is a hard hitting, deeply emotional look at a teen trying to piece her life back together after years of mistakes and bad choices.

Release- Predestined by Abbi Glines

You would think after helping save her boyfriend from an eternity in Hell that things would go back to normal. Well, as normal as life can be when you can see souls and your boyfriend is Death. But for Pagan Moore, things are just getting weirder.

The high school quarterback and reigning heartthrob, Leif Montgomery, is missing. While the town is in a frenzy of worry, Pagan is a nervous wreck for other reasons. Apparently good ‘ol Leif isn’t your average teenage boy. He isn’t even human. According to Death, Leif doesn’t have a soul. The quarterback may have skipped town but he’s still showing up in Pagan’s dreams... uninvited.

Dank has known from the beginning Leif wasn’t human. But he hadn’t worried about a simple soulless creature. Now, he realizes he made a grave mistake. Pagan’s soul has been marked since birth as a restitution, to a spirit so dark not even Death walks near it. Dank knows saving Pagan’s soul won’t be easy but Pagan is his. And he’s already proven he’ll defy Heaven to keep her. If Hell wants a piece of him too, then bring it on.

Release- Slow Twitch by Liz Reinhardt

Summer scatters three friends, ties them back together, and makes them question who they have been and who they want to be in the future.

Brenna expected to soak up the knowledge of great Irish writers at her summer workshop in Dublin. But there are some things even the best books can't teach you, and a passionate new friend and an old familiar full of surprises challenge Brenna to follow her heart. By the time she's back in the States, she can't wait to throw herself back into Jake's arms and tell him exactly what he means to her.

She puts the brakes on that plan when it becomes clear that Jake may not be ready to shoulder any more. He visits his family's palatial home in the mountains of New York, and is exposed to all the possibilities a life surrounded by his pampered relatives and washed in money would hold for him. But is is possible to accept so much and not change who you are? Jake has to face the reality that changing sometimes means losing things...but how much is he willing to put on the line?

Saxon has been thrust into a life of drudgery and indentured service he never dreamed of after a brush with the law puts him on family-enforced probation. Who would have thought Sussex County's resident bad-ass layabout would fall head-over-heels in love with a girl, an elderly aunt, and a shot at a whole new life. The problem is, he's a Maclean to his marrow, and it's in his blood to be a selfish screw-up. Isn't it?

Brenna, Jake, and Saxon spend one summer growing up, working things out, and doing their best to weather the changes that get thrown their way. But can the love and friendships of one amazing summer last through the ups and downs of the coming years?

Slow Twitch is book number three in the Brenna Blixen series. Book one is Double Clutch, and book two is Junk Miles. All books in this series are YA Mature. Slow Twitch contains sex, drug references, alcohol consumption, and swearing. It is intended for mature or older readers.

The Entire Brenna Blixen series is
now available at Amazon!!

Guest Post- Liz Reinhardt

As part of her blog tour for Forgiving Trinity, Liz Reinhardt agreed to do a guest post for me. First, let me give you a quick bio for her: Not only is she the author of Forgiving Trinity, she is also responsible for the Brenna Blixen trilogy. Those books are Double Clutch, Junk Miles, and the upcoming Slow Twitch. Stop back on Monday April 3rd for my review of Forgiving Trinity.

Now... she has me slightly frightened about what she's going to write about... let's see what she has to say...

Karen told me I could write about WHATEVER I WANTED!
I think this might be madness, but she’s obviously a lovely and brave woman, so I will take her up on her offer and write about something I want to write about!

“And I thought you were gorgeous back then, Fallon Parker.”
Fallon froze.
She would forever know that velvet smooth voice anywhere. Fallon would always remember the way it sounded when he would lay her down on his bed before he would thoroughly make love to her or when he would console her when she was sad. It was the voice of the man that she had loved with a fierceness no one could touch. It was the same voice of the man that broke her into a billion pieces in a matter of seconds.

Hope you enjoyed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

Cover/Blurb Reveal: Easy by Tammara Webber

When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she’s single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, stalked by her ex’s frat brother, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Her econ professor gives her an email address for Landon, the class tutor, who shows her that she’s still the same intelligent girl she’s always been. As Jacqueline becomes interested in more from her tutor than a better grade, his teasing responses make the feeling seem mutual. There’s just one problem—their only interactions are through email.

Meanwhile, a guy in her econ class proves his worth the first night she meets him. Nothing like her popular ex or her brainy tutor, Lucas sits on the back row, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. At a downtown club, he disappears after several dances that leave her on fire. When he asks if he can sketch her, alone in her room, she agrees—hoping for more.

Then Jacqueline discovers a withheld connection between her supportive tutor and her seductive classmate, her ex comes back into the picture, and her stalker escalates his attention by spreading rumors that they’ve hooked up. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

Easy is a Young Adult (YA-Mature) contemporary novel, and is a stand-alone (no series, and unassociated with Between the Lines).

Excerpt: Streamline by Jennifer Lane

Streamline Excerpt

Leading up to the Streamline Launch Party on Tuesday, March 27th, I'll be posting one excerpt a day.
Today's excerpt comes from the first chapter, which occurs in the swimming pool---one of my favorite places! And I just came from the pool, where I watched the Grand Prix swim meet held by USA Swimming in Columbus, Ohio. I had the pleasure of witnessing Michael Phelps swim the fastest time in the world this year in the 200 Butterfly.I had the pleasure of witnessing Michael Phelps swim the fastest time in the world this year in the 200 Butterfly.

Can you believe his physique? There were some incredible bodies littering the pool deck. I noticed many of the women have tiny breasts (like the heroine of Streamline, Audrey Rose). No wonder my substantial girls and I never achieved the Olympic level of competition when I swam in college!

The hero of Streamline, Leo Scott, is about 10 years younger than Michael Phelps and nowhere near as accomplished. But he has big dreams nonetheless. And quite a few obstacles on the way to reaching those dreams.

~*~

“You can do it, Leo,” Audrey whispered from the next lane.
He turned to her and nodded as he adjusted his goggles and set himself ready on the wall. Leo felt confidence envelop him, and his focus narrowed to the now-calm water ahead. His teammates huddled near the lane lines to give him a clear path.
He was the best swimmer on the team, a senior captain. This was his team, and he wouldn’t let them down.
Clicking his stopwatch, Matt called, “Ready, hup!”
Leo pushed off, elbows squeezing ears in a tight streamline. His legs burst into whitewater behind him, propelling him like a motorboat. His fingers extended at the top of the stroke, and his high elbows sculled the water beneath his body. Nothing extraneous, no wasted energy. Everything with purpose. The 100 freestyle was his specialty.
He swam down the length of the fifty-meter pool and quickly flip-turned to begin making his way back. He could hear the faint cheers of his teammates build as he approached. Fighting fatigue, he drove to the wall.
When he lifted his head above the water, all he could hear were his sharp rasps for air. His teammates were silent as they waited to hear whether their tortuous practice was complete.

Teaser from Toni Aleo's upcoming "Trying to Score"

Monday Teaser!

Only 7 Mondays left! I’m so excited! Eeekk! The winner from last week is: Leafsgirl!!!!!
Please email me at toni.aleo@yahoo.com with your address and I will get that sent out to you!
Now enough talking and off to the teaser. I absolutely LOVE Audrey, who is Fallon’s sister and this is a really good teaser of hers.
Dont forget to comment for your chance of winning a bookmark and to be eligible to the $15 giftcard!
WARNING: INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE IS INCLUDED BECAUSE I LIKE NAUGHTY WORDS!!!!
“Watching the show,” she said pointing to across the lawn. “Not only am I intrigued by the fact that he is movin’ in at 11 o’clock at night, but the dude is sexy Fal! Like super sexy, Antonio Banderas sexy.”
“Oh Lord,” Fallon groaned as she rolled her eyes and laid her briefcase down beside her sister. She slowly slid her boots off, standing on the cold sidewalk in her socks.
It felt great after the night she had.
Fallon glanced over at the guy and saw that he was older, way older.
“Jeez Audrey, he’s like 45…eww.”
Audrey laughed. “Nah, but late thirties for sure though.”
“Still you’re only 27. Go find someone your age.”
“No, guys are stupid at my age. I want a man with some age to him, someone that knows their way around the bedroom.”
Fallon scoffed at that. “Good luck with that! Older men can’t keep it up without help, which would involve you giving a lot of head or him going on medication, or both.”
“Oh yeah,” Audrey said as a look of disgust came over her face, “back to men my age.”
Hope you enjoyed! See you next Monday!

My "Assassin" Hockey Experience with author Toni Aleo

Being a blogger can have many advantages. One can be a reason (or excuse) to be able to contact your favorite authors. While starting my blog, I contacted Toni Aleo (author of Taking Shots and the upcoming Trying to Score) for some information. Through that, I feel that I can safely say we have become friends. (yeah)  Luckily, my family was stopping in Chattanooga, TN during our Spring Break trip so I was able to meet up with Toni and her friend Jackie at the March 8th Nashville Predators game. Oh my goodness, did we have an awesome time!!

Left side, behind bench, white
sweatshirt with yellow on either side
Why, hello there!
We ended up having seats right behind the Preds bench. Yes, we were this close *pinches fingers close together* to Toni's Shea Weber... not to mention the rest of the team.  That's right... this photo was without zoom... we were this close!!  *sigh*

Don't you just want to reach
out and touch somebody?!?!

The Predators played the Colorado Avalanche. They had an awesome game and won 4-2.

OK... enough with the technical stuff... on to the fun stuff!!!

This is back up goalie Andres Lindback... the Assassin's Series readers might be learning more about him soon!!  ;)

Yes... that IS Shea looking right at Toni's camera!

Toni, Jackie and I... see how close we are... ahh, it was awesome!!

For those who have seen my reply to Toni's quest to have us all find our hockey crush... I discovered Craig Smith. (See previous post for more info. hehehe) Now for the sad part of the evening... keep in mind that I had traveled 700 miles to see this hockey match... After watching the Predators emerge from the tunnel for their pre-game warm ups... I noticed Craig wasn't on the ice. He was a scratch so he didn't play!  :'(   Talk about making a grown woman want to cry!   However, there was a light at the end of this tunnel... we had started chatting with a Preds employee and he took sympathy upon me and my plight... He got me a personalized, autographed puck from Craig Smith!!  :) Totally made my night!!  Thank you Craig... and my knight in shining armor that got it for me (you know who you are)!
